Dredge — Design Analysis Hub
Thesis
Dredge welds a cozy fishing-sim chassis onto a horror engine by making time the master resource. Every mechanic — panic, the cargo grid, aberrations, the economy — exists to convert "one more catch" into a risk decision. The game is mechanically and thematically about greed and knowing when to stop.
Fact sheet: 4-person studio (New Zealand), Unity, published by Team17. Released 2023-03-30; sold 1M+ copies within ~7 months (their 1-year target of 100k was hit in 24 hours). DLC: The Pale Reach (2023-11), The Iron Rig (2024-08, final).
